What:   HEAVEN IS FOR REAL was the #1 new movie this weekend, the #1 inspirational film, and the #2 film overall for the Easter holiday weekend. HEAVEN is the latest film showing evidence of a strong faith and family box office draw for a film with wide general audience appeal as well.

Next up from the same distributor, TriStar Pictures, MOMS’ NIGHT OUT, a faith-rooted comedy with wide appeal about the trials and joys of parenting starring Sarah Drew (Grey’s Anatomy), Sean Astin (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, RUDY) Emmy Award ® winner Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond, The Middle) and platinum-selling country music artist Trace Adkins (LINCOLN LAWYER). MOMS’ NIGHT OUT hits theaters May 9 in time for Mother’s Day weekend.

Who:   Available to comment on this trend and the films doing well within it are
Rich Peluso, Sr. VP of AFFIRM Films
Ben Howard, Sr. VP of Provident Films
DeVon Franklin, Sr. VP Production Columbia Pictures
Jon and Andy Erwin, co-directors, MOMS’ NIGHT OUT
Randall Wallace, director, HEAVEN IS FOR REAL

Why:   In the first four months of 2014, faith-oriented theatrical releases have already grossed more than $230 million in domestic box office.

Organic faith in film is proving to be financially profitable, showing up in all kinds of genres including drama, comedy, sports, and even horror.
