New Second Saturday Kids Movie Series Coming to SteelStacks
Free series presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network includes Sensory Friendly screenings
BETHLEHEM, PA—The fun of the Levitt Pavilion Family Summer Movie Series will now continue year-round as Lehigh Valley Health Network presents the all-new Second Saturday Kids Movie Series. Kicking off Oct. 13 with “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure,” the free series takes place each month at 10:30 a.m. in the Red Cinema at the ArtsQuest Center’s Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas.
A Sensory Friendly screening of each month’s film will be offered in the Blue Cinema at the same time. Specifically designed for children and adults living with autism, the Sensory Friendly program allows everyone to experience the joy of seeing their favorite movies on the big screen.
As part of the film screenings, talking and walking are permitted, while stimming (self-regulation behavior) is encouraged. The theater’s house lights are dimmed but remain on, while the film volume is lowered, and previews are eliminated, all to provide a comfortable viewing experience for attendees. Additionally, families with special dietary needs can bring food from home.
“Being part of this ArtsQuest program is key to our commitment to working with partners in the community in supporting children and their families in realizing each child’s optimal wellness, development and growth,” says Nathan Hagstrom, Physician-in-Chief for Lehigh Valley Children’s Hospital.
The initial Second Saturday Kids Movie Series lineup is:
Oct. 13 | Pee Wee’s Big Adventure
Nov. 10 | Cinderella (1950)
Dec. 8 | Polar Express
Tickets for each film can be reserved for free by calling the ArtsQuest box office at 610-332-3378 or visiting the ArtsQuest Center, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, PA (Tickets cannot be reserved online). For the 2019 lineup and more information, visit www.steelstacks.org.
