LOS ANGELES – (July 31, 2024) –First Capital Films (“A Fathers Fight”) in partnership with Kappa Studios, a post-production home for “The Chosen,” “The Shift,” “His Only Son,” and upcoming releases “Reagan” and “Best Christmas Pageant Ever” announce “I CAN” is now available for free on most streaming platforms, including Tubi and YouTube.
Originally released in select theaters nationwide, the inspiring feature-length film is based on the true story of one-armed athlete Katelyn Pavey who defied the odds by becoming an All-American college softball player. Pavey’s journey has touched hearts and inspired countless individuals across the country and around the world, and in a commitment to giving back, the film makers behind “I CAN” have been generously donating ALL proceeds to a variety of non-profit organizations across the country that play a vital role in providing support and resources to those in need. These include Freed From Within, Brandon’s House Counseling Center, Special Buddies, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly (Cincinnati), and Orphan Care Alliance.
“Katelyn’s story, depicted with heartfelt sincerity in ‘I CAN,’ showcases her remarkable resilience and unwavering faith,” says Paul Long, president of Kappa Studios. “Since the film’s release, we’ve received countless stories of how her journey has not only captivated audiences but has also motivated many to recognize that in spite of our challenges, God can still use every one of us for His perfect purposes.”
In September 2023, a woman named Chasity reached out to the I CAN team who provided tickets from its Pay-It-Forward Campaign for her daughter Shelby and her teammates to see the movie in theaters. They enjoyed the film so much that their coach, Zach Boetcher, sent the I CAN team videos of each girl’s takeaway. Shortly after the movie’s release, Chasity unexpectedly passed away. In a heartfelt tribute, Coach Boetcher created the first I CAN Softball Tournament, named “I CAN for Shelby,” to help the family grieve and cover expenses related to Chasity’s passing. His vision was for this to become an annual event benefiting a softball family, with each year’s tournament being named “I CAN for ______.” The inaugural tournament was a resounding success, attracting over 35 teams in the Nashville, Tenn. area, and the funds raised were presented to Shelby as a college scholarship.
Tragically, two weeks after the tournament, Coach Zach Boetcher unexpectedly passed away, leaving behind his wife Jordyn and their five children, including a newborn. In his honor, the community has rallied once again to organize a softball tournament that will take place in Nashville, Tenn. on August 31 benefiting his family. This new movement aims to continue the legacy of support and generosity that Coach Zach Boetcher embodied.
“This led our team to create the “I CAN” Foundation,” says “I CAN” Director Tyler Sansom. “We are in the process of forming the 501c3 that will benefit limb-different kids, special needs kids, and at-risk kids by providing them with sports camps all over the country. The proceeds from these camps, as well as grant money and donations will go towards scholarships for young athletes. The scholarship will be called the ‘Zach Boetcher Memorial Scholarship.’ Katelyn Pavey Rockwood and Eric Pavey will be the main directors of the foundation.”
Since its release, “I CAN” has garnered significant attention, winning the following awards: Christian Family Film Festival: Best Of The Fest, Great Lakes Christian Film Festival: Best Director, Best Sound, Best Feature, Jesus Cine Fest (Argentina): Best Feature Film, Faith & Family Film Festival (Florida): Best Actor, Best Ensemble Cast, Best Director, Best Picture, Miracle Makers International Film Festival: Best Faith Film, Beyond Entertainment Film Festival: Best Drama Feature Film, Salty Earth Film Festival: Best Drama, Nest Gen Indie Film Awards: Nominee: Best Supporting Actor (Dan Roebuck), Red Letter Awards (Sept 2024).
“We’re honored to make ‘I CAN’ accessible to everyone, allowing more people to experience Katelyn’s journey and the powerful message it carries. We believe this film will continue to inspire and uplift viewers around the world,” said Brad Silverman, Kappa’s Chief Creative Officer.
