Persian Empire to Life – And Audiences Are Responding
LANCASTER, Pa. – March 4, 2020 – In the biblical story of Esther, as the very existence of her people hangs in the balance, a young Jewish woman must show great bravery and faith “for such a time as this.”
Apparently, now also is “such a time” to tell her story on stage. With 434 performances scheduled for its nine-month run in the 2,000-seat theater in Lancaster, PA, Sight & Sound’s newest production, QUEEN ESTHER , is over 60 percent sold. That’s over 550,000 tickets booked, with still over a week until it premieres March 14.
As a comparison, Sight & Sound’s last opening record was set in 2018 with its show JESUS, with 500,000 tickets booked by opening day.
“This story of a young woman’s courage and faith as she is swept into the danger and intrigue of the Persian royal palace is clearly resonating,” said Sight & Sound Chief Creative Officer Josh Enck, who serves as Executive Producer of QUEEN ESTHER . “Esther is one of the Bible’s most exciting stories, and our audiences will experience it in grand scale.”
QUEEN ESTHER transports audiences into the powerful Persian Empire and its opulent royal palace. The beauty and grandeur of the capital city of Susa comes to life as the production takes place on a 300-foot panoramic stage that engulfs the audience on three sides.
