New Release Movies Premiere on Television
Movies On Demand on Cable Update – August 2015
An array of entertaining films are making their television premieres via Movies on Demand (MOD) on cable in August, including many the same day as their theatrical debuts.
The second installment in the hugely popular film series, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, once again stars Shailene Woodley as Tris and Theo James as Four. The film picks up three days after the last installment leaves off, as the pair are still on the run from Jeanine and all of Erudite.
For thrill-seekers, Dark Places will provide some chilling relief from the summer heat. Charlize Theron stars as Libby, a woman haunted by the mass murder of her family twenty-five years earlier, supposedly carried out by her brother, whom she subsequently testified against. But a team of investigators that specialize in solving unsolved, complex cases make her rethink the horrific crime.
Late July Premiere:
Rihanna and Jim Parsons voice the two central characters in the huge box office animated hit, Home, (premieres 7/28.) Their characters become unlikely friends – a loveable misfit from another planet, and a feisty earthling girl who has been separated from her mother – whose friendship and adventures change both of their worlds forever. The Dreamworks Animation (The Croods, How to Train Your Dragon) title is sure to delight younger audiences.
In the computer-era teen horror film Unfriended, Shelley Hennig and Moses Storm star as high school friends haunted by a Skype™ video claiming to be a girl who committed suicide a year ago because of their bullying.

MOD viewers have an early look at these titles, as most of indies on cable this month are premiering before or same day as their theatrical release.
Several titles have stories revolving around the complexities and turmoil of growing up:
Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Florence Pugh star in The Falling, a teen thriller about the spread of a fainting outbreak throughout a prestigious all-girls school in 1960’s London. The film follows the friendship of the two main characters as they explore their sexuality and growing up. With a stellar cast including Ethan Hawke, Emile Hirsch and Emily Mortimer, 10,000 Saints is a drama that takes place amidst the drugs, sex and punk music of a gritty 1980’s Manhattan, weaving in humor even as it tackles serious issues about growing up and the responsibility of family.
The thriller Cop Car, starring Kevin Bacon and Camryn Manheim, begins with an innocent prank by two boys who stumble upon a cop car and take it out for a spin. However, the plot twists and turns as the boys find themselves hunted by a crooked cop in a high-speed, life-threatening chase.
She’s Funny That Way, from renowned director Peter Bogdanovich, stars Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston and Imogen Poots in a zany backstage comedy about a Broadway cast consisting of couples, a call girl, an ex-lover and numerous crushes.
Considered one of the most iconic rock bands of all time, The Who remains as influential today as they were 50 years ago. The critically acclaimed documentary, Lambert & Stamp, tells the remarkable true story of the filmmakers who discovered The Who while filming the band for an underground movie, and nurtured them to stardom. The film features Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey.
Also notable is Queen of Earth, starring Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) and Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) in a psychological thriller about two friends who retreat to a lake house to rekindle their friendship.
