Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers, High School Musical franchise) stars in the heart-wrenching, inspirational drama Gimme Shelter, arriving on Blu-ray (plus Digital HD UltraViolet), DVD (plus Digital UltraViolet), Digital HD and Video On Demand April 29th from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Based on the true life stories of Several Sources Shelters founder Kathy DiFiore and some of the pregnant teen shelter residents, the gripping tale follows the courageous Agnes “Apple” Bailey who fights against all odds to find the father she’s never known and create the family she never had. The story of her incredible path to find love, acceptance and redemption also features spellbinding performances from Academy Award® nominee James Earl Jones (Best Actor, The Great White Hope, 1970, Star Wars franchise), Rosario Dawson (upcoming Cesar Chavez, Sin City), nearly unrecognizable as Apple’s drug-addicted mother, and Brendan Fraser (The Mummy franchise, Crash).
Written and directed by Ronald Krauss (Amexica), and starring Vanessa Hudgens in “the best performance of her career,” (NYC Movie Guru), the theatrical release Gimme Shelter depicts the story of Agnes “Apple” Bailey (Hudgens) a tough, street-wise teen who flees life with her drug addicted mother to find the wealthy father she’s never known. But when her father’s new prim & proper family find out Apple is pregnant, she is pressured to conform to their expectations and runs away again. Apple must rely on her own survival skills on the streets, until she meets the kindly Father McCarthy who helps direct her to a shelter for pregnant teens. Apple’s unbreakable spirit enables her to fight against the odds to find redemption, and ultimately create a family to finally call her own.
