New Film Slated for Wide Release Mimics Real-life Threats, Says Director

“I think [the film] is very timely for what we’re discussing every day… There’s a Christian message here, a political message here and I think that it is very timely in regard to what some politicians might do in some cases to get things done.” — Gretchen Carlson, FOX News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Dec. 19, 2013 – One Media LLC announces the release of the film PERSECUTED on over 600 screens nationally May 9th, 2014 through Regal Cinema, United Artists and Edwards Theaters, with more to be added.

“We are thrilled to be in wide release with more than 600 theaters slated to open the film,” said Daniel Lusko, writer, producer, and director of PERSECUTED. “We have interest from many partners to make this release a success and we look forward to announcing that over the coming months.”

“We have congressional interest, private sector interest, and lots of media interest in this film,” said Lusko. “We as a nation are perilously close to losing freedom of speech and freedom of religion and everyone we’ve shown the film to has remarked on how easily the plot of PERSECUTED could actually take place—or perhaps already has and was covered up.”

Advance screening events will take place at the annual National Religious Broadcasters convention in February in Nashville, Tenn, and at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in March in Washington, D.C. among others.

PERSECUTED tells the story of a modern-day evangelist named John Luther, played by SAG Award-nominated and Saturn Award winning actor James Remar (XMEN: FIRST CLASS, “Dexter”, DJANGO: UNCHAINED, WHAT LIES BENEATH, RED). Luther is the last hold out for a national endorsement to make sweeping reform in freedom of speech. As the government is mandating political correctness while covertly waging a war against religious organizations, a U.S. Senator, portrayed by Oscar-nominated actor Bruce Davison (XMEN, “Lost”, “Castle”), and his political allies create a sinister plan of denial and scandal to frame John Luther for murder. Suddenly his once normal life is turned upside down as he becomes a fugitive vowing to expose those responsible. It is a mission that brings him face-to-face with the coming storm of persecution that will threaten the moral ethics and freedoms of America.

“I hope to wake up a world that takes freedom and truth for granted; I hope this movie shakes people up,” said writer, director and producer Daniel Lusko.

Producing with Lusko is Oscar-winning producer Gray Frederickson (THE GODFATHER, APOCALYPSE NOW), along with Line Producer Brent Morris (MONSTER, FRANK, and UNKNOWN.)

PERSECUTED cast includes Dean Stockwell (AIR FORCE ONE, THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, STAR TREK), Fred Thompson (“Law & Order”, DIE HARD 2, HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER), Brad Stine (recognized as “God’s Comic” by The New Yorker, social commentator on Fox & Friends, MARRIAGE RETREAT) Raoul Trujillo (APOCOLYPTO, COWBOYS AND ALIENS, THE NEW WORLD), Natalie Grant (five-time Dove Award-winning singer and songwriter) and Gretchen Carlson (Fox News Channel). The film is a SAG-AFTRA production of an original political drama by Lusko.

The film wrapped principle photography on August 6, 2013 and was shot in and around the Albuquerque, New Mexico area. It will release May 9, 2014.

  1. If you view this as entertainment, like the 1984 version of Red Dawn, then you are in for a real treat. If you view this as some kind of social statement, you should be disappointed, as the government portrayed in this movie does not exist in America.
